Aboriginal Student Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships

Humber provides assistance to Aboriginal students in meeting the costs of their tuition and living expenses while studying full-time or part-time. 

Students are also encouraged to visit Humber’s Aboriginal Resource Centre website, which offers a wide range of academic, personal, cultural and career support services.

Humber offers a variety of bursaries and scholarships for Aboriginal students:

Aboriginal Post-secondary Education and Training Bursary

Canada Post Aboriginal Incentive Award

In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to Aboriginal students who are in full-time postsecondary studies and took at least 12 months off from education prior to returning (mature students) and who have completed at least one academic year of a multi-year program, based on an application package and letters of reference.
Value: $1,000

Casino Rama’s Awards for Excellence for Aboriginal Students

Entrance and In-Course
Criteria: Provides financial support to Aboriginal students from Ontario who are pursuing a graduate degree (i.e. Master's or PhD.), professional degree (i.e. law, medicine, dentistry, etc.) or postsecondary education (which includes an undergraduate degree).
Value: Entrance $5,000; In-Course $2,500

Charlotte Carter Memorial Scholarship

In-Course
Criteria: Available to a full-time student of Native descent (Status, Non-Status, Inuit or Métis) enrolled in the second year of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at either a college or a university in Ontario that is recognized by the Ontario College of Nursing. Student must have successfully completed the first year of the program with high academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.0).
Value: $1,000 per year of program

Ontario Power Generation John Wesley Beaver Memorial Award

Entrance or In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to a student of Native ancestry (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) in a technology, trades, or business program, based on strong communication skills, academic merit and involvement in extracurricular activities, including volunteer work.
Value: 2 x $4,000

Criteria: Awarded to Aboriginal students who are status Indian, Non-status Indian, Inuit or Métis, majoring in disciplines related or unrelated to the financial service industry.

First Nations, Inuit & Métis Post-Secondary Fine Arts Bursary Award

Entrance or In-Course
Criteria: Awarded to First Nations, Inuit or Métis students in any creative arts or design program based on financial need, evidence of involvement and contribution to the Aboriginal community, and evidence of suitability and commitment to field of study. Recipients will have demonstrated academic merit and performance, as well as talent and skill demonstrated through a work sample.
