College teams with RIM and lululemon to sponsor China marketing plan competition
Toronto, Ontario – January 14, 2010 – Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning, in collaboration with Research in Motion (RIM) and lululemon athletica, organized and sponsored the first ever international Humber 2010 China Marketing Plan Competition, in Qingdao, China.
Developed as part of ongoing initiatives to raise awareness of Humber in China and to broaden the number of Chinese educational partners with whom Humber works, the inaugural competition was open to second and third year Chinese business students. Working in two- and three-person teams, competitors were tasked with developing marketing plans and video clips to introduce either the RIM Blackberry 8700G or lululemon athletic wear into the Chinese market.
Zhang Yuxin and Liu Fengyi, two students from the China Canada Higher Applied Technology College in the Shandong Institute of Business and Technology, were selected as the Chinese National Champions for their marketing plan for lululemon.
Yuxin and Fengyi will each receive a scholarship, with an approximate value of $11,700, to study in a Bachelor’s degree program at Humber. These students, as well as other participants in the competition, are expected to begin their studies at Humber in September 2010. They will join more than 250 Chinese nationals currently studying at Humber.
“Our goal was to expand and profile our relationship with Chinese partner institutions and enable students to distinguish themselves internationally,” said Wanda Buote, Director, Humber International Centre. “The competition gave students the opportunity to apply theory to actual business opportunities. Teams showcased their marketing, leadership, analytical and creative skills, and received valuable feedback from the judging panel, which included sponsor representatives.”
Fifty teams entered the competition, and ten teams took part in the final round held in Qingdao on January 9th. In total, 120 students participating in the competition shared more than $50,000 in prizes from Humber, RIM and lululemon.
