Toronto, Ontario – June 16, 2010 – Two Humber PR students were recently honoured with awards from the Canadian Public Relations Society, Inc. (CPRS).
Jolinne Kearns won the 2010 CPRS/CNW Group Student Award of Excellence, while Geoff Koehler won the 2010 CPRS Toronto Student of the Year Award.
Kearns won the national award for student excellence in PR, for distinction in a number of categories including:
• clear understanding and application of PR theory
• professionalism
• leadership in scholastic activities
• commitment to a career in PR and ability to contribute to the status and acceptance of the profession
"Humber faculty and staff encourage students to engage in the social discussion of public relations, while providing the necessary guidance that allows students to succeed. I am honoured to have been chosen by the CPRS and the CNW group for this award," said Kearns.
Koehler’s award was presented to a full- or part-time Toronto student, graduating in 2010 from a CPRS-recognized program, who had a solid academic standing and a demonstrated interest in professional development.
"Eight months ago I couldn’t even define PR. Now, because of what I learned at Humber, I've landed a high-paying internship in the field I wanted and won a CPRS award," said Koehler.
This is the second year in a row two Humber PR students have won CPRS awards.
