Humber student Rockets to victory

Industrial Design degree grad wins Best in Show, two other awards

Many of Humber’s graduating Industrial Design degree students recently participated in the 10th annual Rocket Show competition.

Eric Springate won Best in Show, the Red Dot Awards Book and the Juror’s Choice award for his project - HYFORCE - a Hydrogen-powered Robotic Combine Harvester.
Springate’s project addressed the issue of modernizing mainstream combine harverters by designing a lightweight, autonomous machine. Key features include GPS control, hydrogen power, and a system which separates the crop into modular drop bags for collection. These innovations reduce both overall equipment weight, and operating costs, making this a lighter, cleaner, smarter, and more economical harvester.

Rocket is a competition sponsored by the Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario (ACIDO) that features the work of graduating students from Humber College, Carleton University and OCAD.

Other Humber winners include:

Vic Sahadeo, AUTOY – Toy for Children with Autism, Industry sponsored award - Agile Manufacturing: Rapid Prototyping Services Prize
