Industrial design students showcase world-changing concepts

Toronto, Ontario – April 19, 2010 – Students in Humber College’s Industrial Design degree program are working to solve global problems with their innovative designs. Graduating students from the four-year degree program will present their final-year thesis projects at the 2010 Industrial Design Thesis Show.

Innovative concepts targeting commercial, health and lifestyle, transportation and sustainability sectors include:

• Wafl: a water purifying system for use in third-world regions
• ekoSTATION: a children’s game about recycling and the environment
• Two Step: a children’s sport shoe that grows with the child as she/he ages
• AEVUM: a computer-based companion system for children in long-term hospital care to stay connected to friends and family
• Torna: a wheelchair with built-in physiotherapy capabilities
• ARCHON: an injury reducing motorcycle helmet
• CARTELLA: an expandable car that is designed to split into two parts

“Humber Industrial Design students develop solutions applicable to both local and global concerns. Working with industry partners, students continually explore new uses for technology and ways to innovate everyday with specialized products,” says Susan Krausz, associate dean, School of Applied Technology.
