Business students, Meetul Shah, Sunny Khangura and Sean McNeill won the Spirit of SIFE Award at the Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) National Exposition.

Child and Youth Worker - Dorothy Bradley Award
Samantha Rodrigues, a student in the Child and Youth Worker program was required to submit postsecondary course work for professional review. She submitted her leadership paper, which she completed in her first semester Group Dynamics course. Her paper is set to be published in the OACYC Chronicle. Rodrigues received a complimentary OACYC membership and OACYC Provincial Conference registartion for her efforts.
Civil Engineering - Public Works Project of the Year
Andy Kikites, Civil Engineering Graduate and faculty, worked on the Rehabilitation and Retrofit of the Burnhamthorpe Road Bridges over the Credit River and Mullet Creek. Andy and his firm, Giffels Associates Limited/IBI Group, were awarded the 2009 Public Works Project of the Year in the Transportation category, by the OPWA (Ontario Public Works Association).

Comedy - Tim Sims Encouragement Award
Calvin Storoschuk won the prestigious Tim Sims Encouragement Award at the Cream of the Comedy Showcase, Second City. The award, which commemorates the late Tim Sims, a Toronto-based Comedian known for his versatile comedic style and for fostering young talent, is given to the most promising aspiring comedian in Canada.

At the National Culinary Salon: Canadian Restaurant and Foodservice Association Conference, Humber Culinary students won:
Culinary - Provincial Iron Chef and Knorr Provincial Culinary Competition
Christine Fancy competed in two prestigious culinary competitions this spring. The industry experience she gained at Aubergu du Pommier in Toronto and at Patisserie in France helped her win a silver medal in the Provincial Iron Chef competition and a bronze in the Knorr Provincial Culinary Competition.

Humber students won top awards at the 2009 Rocket Show design competition organized by the Association of Chartered Industrial Designers.

Competition
Third-year, Humber College Interior Design students, Lindsay Brown and Katelynn Marshall placed first in the Eastern North American division of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) student competition in Atlanta, Georgia.

Journalism - David L. Adams Apple Awards
Humber’s Journalism and Radio Broadcasting students won two coveted David L. Adams Apple Awards, as part of a record-breaking 49 awards at the 2010 College Media Advisers and Columbia Scholastic Press Association Convention in New York. Achievements included top awards for the Humber EtCetera, Humber’s student newspaper and @humber, Humber’s local radio show, a Silver Crown award, two Best in Show awards and 11 first place wins.

In the League for Innovation Student Art Competition, first-year Creative Photography student, Rebecca Cairns, placed third for her digital photography work, Shadow People. While, Adam Moco, a second-year Creative Photography student received honourable mention for his mixed media work, Stitched Up.

Paramedic student, Samantha Conte, received both the provincial and national, Tema Conter Memorial Trust Scholarship, each valued at $2,500.
Public Relations - Canadian Public Relations Society
Humber Public Relations students were honoured with two awards from the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS). Jolinne Kearns won the 2010 CPRS/CNW Group Student Award of Excellence, while Geoff Koehler won the 2010 CPRS Toronto Student of the Year Award.

Empire Club’s Community Service Award
Wolfgang Vachon (M.Ed.), a full-time faculty member in the Child and Youth Worker program, and founder of Connect to Youth, recently received the Empire Club’s Community Service Award. This award is designed to pay tribute to those who give their time, passion and commitment to the community and special causes and who may or may not be recognized for their work. Wolfgang exemplifies the award recipients the Empire Club wishes to honour. The Empire Club recognized Wolfgang’s work as pivotal to understanding where young people faced with challenges come from and where they can end up without help. Connect to Youth is a life affirming program to many young people. Wolfgang was presented with this award by His Honour, David Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Canada Council for the Arts - Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award
Humber faculty, saxophonist and composer, Kirk MacDonald, won a prestigious Canada Council for the Arts - Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award. The annual awards, worth $15,000 each, recognize outstanding artists in the seven disciplines funded by Canada Council: dance,integrated arts, media arts, music, theatre, visual arts, and writing and publishing.

Dieter Penzhorn Memorial Award
Theatre Production program faculty Heather Kent is this year’s recipient of the Dieter Penzhorn Memorial Award from the Canadian Institute of Theatre Technology/ Institut Canadien des Technologies Scenographiques (CITT/ICTS). The award is presented annually to an individual who has provided significant and sustained services to CITT/ICTS, while playing an active role in the development of the greater Canadian cultural community.

Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Design Excellence Award
Humber’s Centre for Urban Ecology won the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Design Excellence award for the use of environmental technology elements promoting sustainability in its design. The Centre for Urban Ecology is one of 15 buildings across Ontario to receive a Design Excellence Award.

Humber receives $157,000 from City of Toronto’s Better Buildings Partnership
Humber College acquired an incentive cheque for $157,600 from the City of Toronto’s Better Buildings Partnership through the Ontario Power Authority for its dedication to energy reduction and savings. Humber replaced its 35-year-old chiller system at the North campus with the Hartman Loop, a system that provides cold water for the central air conditioning system.
