HOW OSAP WORKS

You may apply for OSAP online at: http://osap.gov.on.ca or you can fill out a paper application, which is available for printing from the OSAP website.

Before you begin:

  • You must identify the institution you plan to attend. If you have been approved to Humber you should confirm your offer of admission before applying for OSAP.
  • After completing your application on the Web, you may print the signature pages or request the Ministry to send them to you.   The signature pages and any required documentation must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office at Humber
  • You may follow the status of your application through the OSAP Web site. If you are approved for a loan, your loan document(s) will be available for pick up on campus on the first day of semester start. You must follow the instructions provided by the Financial Aid Office, included in your package. OSAP loan documents must be processed through Designated Canada Post outlets or by the National Student Loan Service Centre representatives on campus, during the first three weeks of school.
  • Your funding will not be accessible to you until the second week of school. Please remember to budget accordingly. You will need to have some funds available to cover the initial costs associated with your program.
  • Loans are disbursed in two installments:
    • you will receive 60% of your funding at the start of your semester
    • the remaining 40% will be issued at the beginning of your second semester or half way through your study period. Budget your money wisely!!
    • To pick up and process your OSAP you must present:
      • Your Social Insurance Card
      • A valid Canadian government issued photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, provincial health card with photo, PR card, Canadian Citizenship card)
      • Banking Information (name and address of bank, bank transit # and ID code and bank account number) or a void cheque

Please note: Ontario students are eligible to apply for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Students accepted for OSAP must keep in contact with their lender. Here are Humber's OSAP loan default rates compared to other Ontario colleges (PDF Format).
