Canada, in the 21st century, is experiencing profound and unprecedented transformations on economic, political, social, business and cultural levels. People are constantly inundated with new and conflicting information needed in order to make decisions in daily life. How to question assumptions and evaluate the accuracy of data in a changing society? This course will assist students to critically assess behaviour at both the individual (micro) and institutional levels (macro) from a theoretical and research base. It will provide students with the tools and skills required to ask relevant questions in order to better understand the dynamics and trends within contemporary Canadian life and their potential roles in it. A flourishing democracy and civil society need citizens as voters, consumers and participants in communities who in a systematic manner are able to effectively survey society.This course is also offered online.
