In this course, students will gain an understanding of the issues and identify the activities associated with archival records and archival institutions. Students will explore the main functional areas, such as acquisition, appraisal, arrangement, description, conservation and public service, within the context of a modern archive. Emphasis will be placed on the particular concerns of institutional archives and organizational records, although attention will also be paid to private papers. The primary focus is on textual or traditional paper archives in order to emphasize the main archival principles and practices. However, the various other media formats found in most archives will be identified.
Please note that students who choose to take an online section of this course must write the final exam in person, at either the Humber North or Lakeshore campus, or, if located more than 100km from the campus, through an approved proctoring facility. Any costs associated with this are the sole responsibility of the student.
