The development and delivery of this 10 hour workshop is in partnership with the Bob Rumball Center for the Deaf. It will introduce you to strategies and techniques for dealing with individuals in the deaf community in first contact emergency situations. You will learn the American Sign Language (ASL) alphabet, simple sign language and communication strategies to be able to calm, reassure, assess and obtain contact and other necessary information. You will also learn about deaf culture in order to have a better understanding of how to communicate with individuals in the deaf community.
Workshops are 10 hours in length (5 hours on Saturday and 5 hours on Sunday) and are held at both the North and Lakeshore campuses, but we can arrange to hold the workshop offsite for interested groups.
