Counselling provides a confidential, non-judgemental setting where you can discuss whatever difficulties are of most concern to you. The counsellor will listen carefully, ask questions and work with you to overcome barriers that are preventing you from being successful both academically and personally.
How do I decide if I should see a Counsellor?
Whether you would like to see a Counsellor is a personal decision however if you are experiencing the following you may want to consider making an appointment: having an issue/problem that continues to persist and may be getting worse, feeling overwhelmed with life/school, not performing well academically, difficulties with concentration, motivation or sleeping and experiencing mood swings. Often times our own resources for coping or the support of family and friends is not enough. At this point, you may want to consider accessing Counselling.
What concerns do you deal with?
Students come to us with a variety of issues including but not limited to: stress, feeling overwhelmed, self-esteem, relationship issues, difficulties with studying, academic issues, sexuality, abuse, addictions, career concerns, depression, anxiety, etc.
Will anyone know that I’ve accessed Counselling?
Your name and what you share are kept completely confidential. We will not release information to anyone without your written consent except where required by subpoena or law (imminent harm to self and others or child abuse).

Do you do Counselling by e-mail?
At this time, we do not provide Counselling by e-mail. All appointments are in person. Email communication may not be confidential; Counsellors may not respond in depth to students regarding very personal, urgent or emergency information. Is there a fee for Counselling?
There is no fee for Humber/Guelph Humber students. How often and how long are the appointments? Our appointments are aligned with the classroom periods and are 20 -50 minutes long.
All counsellors are professionals with a graduate degree. The counselling team is diverse with respect to age, gender, race and culture. Counsellors work from a range of theoretical orientations and use a variety of counselling techniques.
