Mature Students

We recognize that mature students, who have been out of full time school for some time, have unique needs and challenges. Often many of you are returning to school after a break in your formal education. Many students return to school to change careers, to upgrade skills, or to finish a program started years earlier. There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ mature student, but mature students have many common concerns. Often returning to school involves personal and family sacrifices. Juggling becomes a necessary skill. During Orientation Week, students are asked to attend an Orientation session geared toward the needs and concerns of mature students.

If you would like individual assistance with transition to college or life management or other issues, you may schedule an appointment with a counsellor at 416.675.5090.

Residence

In addition to the support and training we provide to Residence Student Staff (RAs), Counsellors have been involved with students in the residence for many years. Counsellors are well versed in the many issues students typically face while living in residence. These can include:

  • loneliness,
  • homesickness,
  • depression,
  • anxiety,
  • confusion, etc.

You will find that your RAs are very helpful however there are times when you may require professional support and Counselling.

You can make an appointment to see a Counsellor by calling 416.675.5090 (North) or 416-675-6622, ext. 3331(Lakeshore) or coming to the Counselling Office located in B112 (North) or A120 (Lakeshore).
