Academic Year

2016-2017

Students experience demonstrations of the principles of sample preparation and laboratory techniques commonly encountered in chemical analysis with practical applications to the food science and environmental analysis fields. Students explore the topics of proper handling of chemicals for both macro- and micro-quantitation, the use of visible, ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy, chromatography (gas and high performance liquid chromatography), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and electrophoresis and correct use of statistical methods in chemical analysis with an emphasis on accuracy and precision.
