Academic Year

2016-2017

The course provides an introduction to statistical theory and techniques with direct applications to established industrial practices of quality assurance and process control using a calculator and computer. Students will use descriptive statistics to collect, analyze, display and describe data. Probability is studied using discrete distributions (hypergeometric, Binomial and Poisson) as well as the normal distribution. Hypothesis testing will be taught using Z- and t-tests. Students will learn to calculate and apply a regressions equation and a coefficient of correlation. A brief history of quality control will be covered and students will learn about control charts.
