This course will introduce students to common psychiatric conditions, substance abuse and cognitive impairment. The possibility of multiple conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and depression will be discussed. The importance of observation, documentation and reporting and the role of the family caregiver are emphasized. Care techniques including GENTLECARE and U-First approaches will be described and practiced within the classroom setting.
