Course Description

As web video takes on a more prominent role in the delivery of engaging and rich media online experiences, the craft of creating motion graphics to support those experiences takes on a higher degree of importance. In this course the student will discover the emerging relationship between Flash CS3 and AfterEffects as it pertains to the creation of motion graphics that will be streamed through the web. Through class discussions, critique of existing projects and use of the applications, students will learn how to conceptualize and produce effective motion graphics using the software and choose the appropriate technology for projects ranging from simple animations to interactive Flash video productions. This course defines and explains the concepts and skills essential to the design and development of creative, effective motion graphics programs. The unique contribution and interrelationship of the constituent elements - text, typography, graphics, audio, video, animation and interactivity - are identified and explored. Issues of streaming media management and the user experience in the area of IMM productions will also be presented.
