Special events are an integral part of the fundraising mix. In this course students are introduced to effective models of event management, research tools and the feasibility of events. Students will learn to prepare budgets, select appropriate venues and explore suitable activities and tactics, develop a sponsorship package, and select appropriate evaluation techniques. Through lectures, scenarios, individual and group study, students learn to recognize an organization's readiness for fundraising events and examine the role special events can play in marketing and branding an organization. Students examine and discuss recruiting and building volunteer or staff teams for fundraising events. To assist students in appreciating the fundraiser's "ask role", students will complete at least one independent fundraising activity as part of this course.
