Behavioural Assessment

Course Code

BHSC 2001

Academic Year

2016-2017

This course will provide students with the practical knowledge of how to conduct comprehensive and evidence-based biopsychosocial and functional behavioural assessments (indirect assessments, descriptive assessments, visual analyses, functional analyses) commonly performed by behaviour analysts in mental health, education, and community settings.

The texts, readings and exercises in this course will provide the student with a best-practice framework for understanding the function(s) of complex behaviour (why individuals use inappropriate behaviour to get something or get out of something) while utilizing a function-based behavioural assessment and classification system. Students will begin to integrate and link assessment results to prescriptive behavioural interventions emphasizing function-based replacement behaviours. Students will also learn how to improve the quality of assessments while considering the social validity, treatment integrity, and contextual fit of behavioural procedures as part of the assessment process.
