Course Description

This course will familiarize students with the nature of supervision in the workplace with an emphasis on the management skills first-line supervisors are expected to possess. Leadership skills will be explored, including ethical/legal issues, hiring practices, performance appraisals, team and individual decision making and coaching. Discipline and conflict resolution matters are also emphasized. A focus on communication techniques both toward subordinates, and toward superiors is of paramount importance.
