This introductory course provides the student with an overview of the Canadian Criminal and Civil Justice System with a particular emphasis on the history, function, role and organization of the Canadian security and investigation industry. The operation of the criminal justice system is examined and analyzed in light of contemporary issues affecting the system. The civil court process is outlined and discussed to help students understand the role that civil litigation has on the private sector security function and the impact court actions/decisions has on individuals, security practitioners and organizations. Each of the major components from criminal and civil enforcement through the courts and correctional services are explored.
