Communication and Function

The course will teach students practical skills that will enhance their communication skills with people who have speech and language problems. Specific strategies for effective communication will be presented for each topic. Students will learn how to use these strategies to assist and facilitate communication despite impairments. Students will learn the importance of effective communication in their roles as Occupational Therapist Assistants/Physiotherapist Assistants. Time will also be spent on learning how to identify possible swallowing issues and strategies to assist those with swallowing and/or feeding disorders.
