Critical Reading is a course designed to improve student reading proficiency and encourage a multi-dimensional understanding of texts. The course is divided into two major sections: Reading Comprehensively and Reading Critically. Reading Comprehensively emphasizes the development and application of reading skills, where students further develop their ability to understand, extract, and summarize the fundamental ideas and details presented in texts. Reading Critically encourages students to "read between the lines", employing a variety of tools to reflect, evaluate, and advocate when encountering diverse texts. This course offers students the opportunity to engage in an assortment of formal and informal textual mediums (e.g., prose, poetry, play/script, newsprint, image (photograph), video (documentary), audio, etc.,).
