This workshop course introduces students to a variety of materials, finishes and techniques used in the production of goods some of which (but are not limited to) decorative accessories, upholstered goods, floor mats, dyed fabrics. Students explore processes and procedures used in the manufacture many products that relate to the design industry. Throughout the course students will be required to research, discuss and explore their creative notions. Presentation of ideas requires that students develop concept drawings before producing their final project. In addition, students learn the value of critiques with feedback throughout the stages of project development. Students are encouraged to design and ultimately produce objects and products that are practical, as well as decorative in nature. Through the development and production of these objects, students discover the limitations of materials and the boundaries of creativity. In addition to producing objects, students work to deadlines in order to complete their finished project assignments, which include 1. individual research, 2. electronic and hand produced drawings 3. graphics of concept ideas that show the development and process of their the finished project.
