This course covers the methods of research as applied to supporting a design solution. In a fast-developing profession that is innovation-centered, industrial designers require practice in diverse research methods. Research is a tool which is used to inform design. Specific research techniques are presented in the context of design methodology. Research methods introduced and applied to a research topic include reviews of the literature, survey techniques (both qualitative and quantitative techniques), user observation, health and product safety among others. Several case studies are examined using specific research techniques culminating in a final project linked with BIND 402 - Senior Level Thesis Project I.
