This supervised direct patient contact clinical practice prepares students to make the transition from classroom learning to clinical application. The emphasis of the second spring-term clinical practice is on TCM diagnosis and combination of acupuncture with herbal treatments. Students apply knowledge, skills and critical thinking to the practice of acupuncture. They will practice clean needling procedure and measures of acupuncture risk management following the acupuncture safety guidelines. When in direct patient contact, students will practice making a TCM diagnosis based on the meridian system; they will locate acupuncture points, compose acupuncture formulas, and perform various acupuncture techniques on patients. At the end of the practicum, students must successfully demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for practicing acupuncture independently.
