Drafting and Detailing 1 is organized in two parts: Lecture: A lecture component that introduces students to the building process including the terminology and components used in construction today. Over the course of the term students will be introduced to the wide range of building techniques from wood frame construction used in homes and small buildings to the various steel and concrete structures and the different cladding systems used to enclose large scale Industrial, recreational and commercial buildings. As well, students are given an overview of sustainable design and of the different roles architectural technologists can take within the building industry. Studio: The Studio component introduces students to the fundamentals of architectural drawings and to the basics of manual drafting, and model-making techniques. The student will acquire knowledge and skills by drawing multi-view and pictorial drawings, presentation drawings, working drawings and details, and by constructing a building massing model. Emphasis will be placed on line work, lettering, drawing symbols and conventions, sheet layout and presentation.
