This course provides an overview of management and the general operation of an advertising, design or communication studio. Students learn how to work with other creative talent; how to select and commission photography, copywriting and illustration services; and how to select appropriate services for printing and or or other trades. The negotiation of fees is also be covered. Focus is given to the business side of the creative industry, including the development of a resume and cover letters. Given the changes that have occurred in this sector, particularly over the past decade, effective business skills are an essential factor in succeeding as a creative practitioner.
