Course Description

This course addresses the challenging role of the retail buyer. More specifically, it recognizes the necessary tasks that buyers must follow in order to purchase merchandise according to a set merchandise plan. It will teach students how to manage their inventory and profitability within this set plan. This course further examines how buyers plan assortments, open to buy and negotiate terms of business in order to create a profitable retail situation. Students will be given a clear understanding of the specifics on how to purchase apparel/accessories, which will enable them to pursue an entry-level position in a retail-buying field. This course also provides a fundamental viewpoint of the fashion industry from a buying perspective, which will enable students to excel in other areas of the industry through this enhanced knowledge base.
