This course is a foundation for understanding the nature of fixed income investments, one of the largest and fastest growing segments of global capital markets. The basic features of fixed income securities are explored along with describing issuers, sectors and types of corporate and government bonds. The analysis of bond valuation and management are introduced followed by topics such as interest rate and yield valuation, convexity and duration of a portfolio, spot and forward rates. Different classes of securities such as government and municipal, corporate, asset backed and mortgage backed are examined. In addition, other fixed income instruments will be explored, including limited partnerships, REITs, PPNs, real property, etc. Credit rating agencies and the role they play will also be examined.
