Romantic and Victorian Literature

Course Description

This course introduces students to the major writers of the Romantic Period and the Victorian Age. Students will read, discuss, and write about the poetry and prose of, among others, Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Keats, Austen, Darwin, Carlyle, Hardy, Tennyson, Arnold, Dickinson, and Chopin. Special emphasis is given to poetic forms; aspects of narrative; and the socio-historical contexts created by revolution, imperialism, and feminism.
