Course Description

This course introduces students to the study of society as an academic discipline (sociology), by focusing on common problems that affect many members of various social groups. Such issues include problems of inequality between different ethnic groups and between different genders; problems involving control of work and the economy; global environmental pollution and the struggle for resources; and recent changes to family structures. The purpose of this course is to broaden students' understanding of large-scale social phenomena so that they can make more informed decisions as a contributing member of society in the years ahead.
