History of Graphic Design

This course is designed to provide the student with a broad historical knowledge of graphic design and theoretical frameworks for the many principles of current design composition and communication that are rooted in historical precedent. From ancient communication systems to the present day digital revolution, each era in history and the key players involved in their evolution will be examined. Research and discussion in class, and in written assignments, will make connections among cultural, social, economic and political trends, technology and how they inform current design practice.
