This course will introduce students to important legal aspects of doing business in a global environment. It will include legal considerations for Canadian firms seeking to establish themselves in foreign countries. Some of the topics covered will be bilateral and multilateral trade agreements including the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) /World Trade Organization (WTO) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), legal aspects of the international sales of goods and international financing of transactions, conflict of laws, alternative dispute settlement, dispute resolution under international trade agreements and forms of business organization for doing business abroad such as agency, licensing and strategic alliances.
