This course provides an introduction to the theories, concepts and practical application of interpersonal communication skills which are critical to working effectively with children, youth and communities. Topics such as listening, verbal and nonverbal communication, perception, cultural diversity and conflict management will be covered. Diversity and sensitivity to others is emphasized in all areas. Students will participate in experiential learning situations that reinforce theory and provide opportunities to practice the interpersonal communication skills being presented. Through greater awareness of self and others, students will be able to improve the effectiveness of their interpersonal communication.
