Course Description

This course continues the development of skills learned in JRNL 115. It takes the fundamentals of broadcast writing and applies them to newsgathering and reporting. The course will examine the tools of the trade, and students will explore some of the techniques used by broadcast interviewers. The course will also encourage and develop critical listening skills. Students will conduct interviews and use the material to create radio news reports, which may be used in the newscasts on Radio Humber 96.9FM. They will learn to use the audio editing function of the newsroom content management system, Burli. In addition, students will receive some basic voice training to help improve presentation skills. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have an understanding of the skills and standards of reporters working in radio.
