This course examines the theories, institutions and processes of industrial relations in Canada It covers the issues involved in labour-management relations, including the historical development of the trade union movement, union structures and functions, the organizing drive, certification processes, the grievance process, and labour legislation. Students will have the opportunity to experience the collective bargaining process through a simulated bargaining exercise. The aim is to expose the student to the complexities of the labour-management relationship and to explore various approaches for effectively managing this critical human resource management function.
