Course Description
The purpose of this course is to enhance the student's self-awareness as a requisite to professional caring relationships. The student needs to know his/her self in order to care effectively for others in a therapeutic relationship. The therapeutic use of self in nursing builds partnerships with clients, families, other health-care providers and colleagues. The concept of caring and its centrality to the therapeutic relationship will be explored. Effective communication skills essential to a caring and therapeutic relationship will be developed. Therapeutic communication facilitates client's adaptation to health challenges and promotes healthy lifestyles.
