Course Description

Mental Health Challenges explores the experience of persons living with mental illness and examines related nursing therapeutics. It is an introduction to the foundations of psychiatric and mental health nursing. The course will assist students in examining acute and chronic psychiatric illness and mental health promotion from a nursing perspective. It will assist students to help clients experiencing acute psychiatric crises and chronic mental health challenges regardless of the care and treatment setting. The most common mental illnesses experienced by Canadians will be examined in light of the stigma associated with mental illness and the mentally ill and from the perspective of those living with mental illness.
