Practical Nursing Pre-Graduate Experience

Course Code

NURS 253

Academic Year

2016-2017

During the pre-graduate clinical practicum students make the transition from student to novice practical nurse. In preparation for the work environment students gain experience by working shifts, weekends, and on holidays. Students use knowledge, skills, and judgment to demonstrate readiness to enter the nursing profession and practice and to become contributing members of the inter-professional health care team. Students practice with mentorship by and in consultation with preceptors and other nurses. During this clinical practicum, students work collaboratively as members of the inter-professional health care team and autonomously within their knowledge and skills by using a practice decision-making framework and the Three-Factor Framework (nurse, client and environment). At all times, students practice safely, competently and within legal, regulatory, ethical and professional frameworks of practice.
