This course provides an introduction to the professional practices of film and media production management through an examination of the elements involved in the creation and planning of film and media projects. Students are given an overview of the management, business, financial and legal aspects of production through the development, pre-production, production and post-production phases. Students are introduced to the challenges of the production process and develop strategies for overcoming them. Emphasis is placed on industry standards and their adaptation to low-budget student filmmaking. The applicability of production skills, knowledge and tasks to other media is addressed. Movie Magic production management software is introduced and professional samples of production paperwork are included in the course reader and classroom.
