Professional Communications: Emergency Telecom

Course Code

WRIT 226

Academic Year

2016-2017

This course is designed to help Emergency Telecommunications students develop the strategies used in effective academic, job search and workplace writing. Students learn how to use proper documentation when writing a research essay, attract employers' attention with a well-written resume and cover letter, and distinguish between critical and extraneous information when writing incident reports. They also learn how to present information in clear, concise, accurate, factual, and unbiased language and to write assignments that conform to the minimum standards of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and style. As a value-added feature, the course gives students the opportunity to practise showcasing their skills and experiences during a mock panel interview. They learn to prepare for actual interviews by first documenting the essential, rather than superfluous, information in their cover letter and resume.
