Professional Orientation 1 and 2 concentrate on the business skills necessary for an actor to make a living as a self-employed professional artist. Throughout the year, students will receive mentorship from professional artists as well as faculty. They will be introduced to the demands and etiquette of a variety of professional situations and environments. Students will develop audition techniques and material; learn about the relationship of the actor to agents, artistic directors, casting directors, etc.; prepare the necessary tools of the actor's trade (resumés, headshots, video and audio cassettes). Students will be asked to prepare grant applications, budgets and media releases as a preparation for self-producing opportunities. Students are expected to develop a personal strategic plan to guide them through the transition from the college environment to the professional world.
