Academic Year

2016-2017

This course introduces students to photovoltaic (PV) and wind technologies that directly convert non-polluting flow resources (wind and solar) into electricity. It also covers electricity storage, via wet and dry cell, deep-cycle battery technologies. With the knowledge gained from the Energy Metrics, Surveying and Analysis course, students will now learn to apply their knowledge of site and client conditions to make sound recommendations about the most suitable options from the many PV and wind turbine products, inverters, monitoring/control systems and electrical storage options available on the market. Safety considerations and practices while working with DC and AC technologies, as well as chemical electrical storage, are included. Laboratory and field work are integral to the course.
