This course is an introduction to the study of sustainable building design and its relationship to sustainable energy and building practice. Part 1 of the course is introductory and theoretically based, focused on: origins of the green building movement and the principles of integrated design process (IDP); review of the codes and standards utilized to regulate the design community; investigation of major aspects of sustainable building design, namely, sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality; fundamentals of sustainable building design process; and introduction to LEED project management. Part 2 of the course shifts the focus to the detail and practical aspects of sustainable building design.
