Course Description

The introductory course has been designed to expose the learner to concepts of the physical sciences that are applicable and relevant to his or her field of study. Topics such as units of measurement, unit conversions, scientific notation, ratios and relationships and manipulation of three-variable equations will serve as the foundation for the more traditional topics commonly associated with physics, heat, light, sound, motion and the conservation of energy will be examined from a big picture perspective, and special emphasis will be placed on how each of these concepts applies to the learner's concurrent courses. Learners will interact with course material through live demonstrations, class discussions, supervised study sessions and a variety of online learning tools and objects. Successful completion of this course will not only improve the learner's understanding of physics, but will also enable him or her to grasp how his or her other first-semester courses are related to one another.
