This introductory videography course engages students in the art and craft of shooting video. Working with professional high definition video cameras, students learn the mechanics of shooting technically proficient moving images. Students learn the language, grammar, meanings and esthetics of the frame and the moving image, which will enable the creation of compelling moving images that tell a story. The student learns digital video and camera terminology. He or she learns how to use a tripod properly, set up a camera for the correct shooting formats, use the manual functions of a video camera, expose frame and compose correctly, calibrate and use an external field monitor, plan and shoot for the editor. They also practise the use of portable lighting kits on location. The student also learns how to use the camera in a more expressive, experimental and poetic style in order to create compelling personal films.
