Course Description

This course describes the infrastructures, components and protocols of a wide range of wireless technologies. The course commences with a brief review of networking fundamentals including software and hardware used for interconnection of traditional wired networks. Existing wireless technologies such as global positioning satellite (GPS), cellular digital packet data (CDPD), general packet radio service (GPRS), infrared (IR), and local multi-point distribution systems (LMDS) will be discussed. Technologies such as Bluetooth, digital audio broadcast (DAB) and IMT2000 will also be addressed. The student will be introduced to network operating systems (Novell NetWare or MS Windows 2000). A detailed study and analysis of the IEEE 802.11b WLAN standards will be examined.
