Writing for TV Comedy 1

Course Code

COMM 5003

Academic Year

2016-2017

Through class work, studying existing TV shows and scripts, and written assignments, students develop the skills necessary to produce story springboards, a premise, beat sheet and ultimately an outline for an original spec script of a show currently on the air, or a script of the students own creation, from which they are able to write a half-hour single camera or multi-camera script. Students work individually and in group settings, learning how to break stories and expand simple ideas into a cohesive setup, complication and resolution. As well, students learn the basics of scriptwriting formats and structures.
