This course examines the broad field of developmental disabilities from many perspectives. Topics covered include: historical perspectives, changing attitudes about developmental disabilities, legislation protecting people with intellectual disabilities, causes, prevention and emerging research in the field, advocacy, growth, inclusion, and empowerment of people with developmental disabilities, issues facing families with members who have an intellectual disability and inclusive education.
