Autism and Other Complex Needs

Course Code: DSW 217

This course will explore Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), and Fragile-X Syndrome (FXS). The course will focus on the current knowledge base regarding the causes and co-occurring conditions related to each of these disorders and current best practice with respect to the most effective evidence-based strategies to use when supporting individuals with these conditions including biomedical, behavioural, and other clinical interventions. The overall goal of the course is to develop the knowledge and skills required to assist individuals with these conditions to be integrated in their communities and achieve the highest possible quality of life.
